Synopsis :
Un récit de formation, d’épanouissement personnel et d’émancipation féminine, qui se déroule à Zanzibar et qui suit pendant plusieurs années, la vie de la protagoniste, Samira, une jeune femme de Nungwi – un village de pêcheurs au nord de l’île – jusqu’à ce qu’on la retrouve épouse, mère et professeur. Samira veut avoir une famille, mais elle veut aussi démonter le cliché tout masculin, patriarcal et ancestral, de la femme qui doit choisir entre famille et travail. Et le choix sera un défi, comme souvent il arrive quand vous visez à vous réaliser.
A story of training, personal development and female emancipation, which takes place in Zanzibar and follows for several years, the life of the protagonist, Samira, a young woman from Nungwi -a fishing village north of the fle- until she is found as a wife, mother and teacher. Samira wants to have a family, but she also wants to dismantle the all-male, patriarchal and ancestral cliché of the woman who must choose between family and work. And the choice will be a challenge, as often happens when you aim to realize yourself.

Né à Monopoli (Bari), Nino Tropiano s’installe à Dublin dans les an- nées 90. Il travaille d’abord comme acteur, metteur en scène et pho- tographe indépendant. Il est diplômé en réalisation et production à la National Film School de Dublin avec une thèse (« Le cas, comme instrument de connaissance dans le cinéma de Kieslowsky ») sur le cinéma du réalisateur polonais et, en même temps, a réalisé et pro- duit Ma fille fait la Madone (https ://vimeo.com/245154656 ) un film documentaire projeté en première mondiale au festival de Cracovie en 2002 puis distribué dans le monde entier. Tropiano a ensuite réa- lisé et produit deux autres documentaires : Mary’s last show, un do- cumentaire tourné à Dublin qui observe un groupe de personnes âgées engagées dans des activités récréatives ; Class Reunion, por- trait parallèle de deux femmes des Pouilles contraintes par les vi- cissitudes d’émigrer et qui se rencontrent lors d’une amusante réunion de classe ; et un court métrage The Fall (https://vimeo.com/59895347 8 min) Un court plan sur film 16 mm et monté sur l’ancien ralenti Steinbeck) lauréat du Prix Urlo au Fes- tival Unimovie de Pescara. Chippers, un documentaire qui raconte l’histoire d’une communauté d’Italiens propriétaires d’une chaîne Fish&Chips à Dublin depuis plus de cent ans. Récompensé d’une mention spéciale au festival « Hai Visto Mai ? organisé chaque année à Sienne et le Premier Prix – Mémoires de migrants (Gualdo Tadino). Le film primé Ndoto ya Samira / Le rêve de Samira a été sélectionné dans plus de 60 festivals à travers le monde et a récemment reçu le prix du meilleur long métrage au Babel Film – Compétition internatio- nale pour le cinéma en langue minoritaire (Cagliari, décembre 2021). Wildman Jazz est un documentaire musical actuellement en pro- duction, une histoire se déroulant dans les Pouilles qui raconte l’his- toire de Vincenzo De Luci, trompettiste de jazz et son incroyable histoire de renaissance. Une mère impossible – un long métrage de fiction – est en phase de gestation.
Born in Monopoli (Bari), Nino Tropiano moved to Dublin in the 90s. He first worked as a freelance actor, director and photographer. He gra- duated in directing and production from the National Film School in Dublin with a thesis (« The case, as an instrument of knowledge in Kieslowsky’s cinema ») on the Polish director’s cinema and, at the same time, directed and produced My Daughter Makes the Madonna (https://vimeo.com/245154656 ) a documentary film that had its world premiere at the Krakow Film Festival in 2002 and was distri- buted worldwide. Tropiano went on to direct and produce two more documentaries: Mary’s last show, a documentary shot in Dublin that observes a group of older people engaged in recreational activities; Class Reunion, a parallel portrait of two women from Puglia forced by the vicissitudes of emigrating and who meet at an amusing class reunion; and a short film The Fall (https://vimeo.com/59895347 8 min) A short shot on 16 mm film and edited on the old slow motion Steinbeck) winner of the Urlo Prize at the Unimovie Festival in Pes- cara. Chippers, a documentary that tells the story of a community of Italians who have owned a Fish & Chips chain in Dublin for over a hundred years. Awarded a special mention at the festival « Hai Visto Mai? organized every year in Siena and the First Prize – Memories of Migrants (Gualdo Tadino). The award-winning film Ndoto ya Samira / Samira’s Dream has been selected in more than 60 festivals around the world and recently received the Best Feature Film Award at the Babel Film – International Competition for Minority Language Ci- nema (Cagliari, December 2021). Wildman Jazz is a music documen- tary currently in production, a story set in Puglia that tells the story of jazz trumpeter Vincenzo De Luci and his incredible story of rebirth. An Impossible Mother – a feature film – is in the gestation phase.
